Florida 16 Hour Cosmetology Continuing Education Package
This cosmetology continuing education course package provides sixteen hours of continuing education material to meet the renewal requirements for Florida cosmetologists. Included are two hours of HIV/AIDS instruction; three hours of sanitation and sterilization; one hour each of OSHA regulations and Florida Workers’ Compensation; two hours covering laws and rules that guide the industry; two hours of the chemical makeup of hair, skin, and nails; one hour of instruction highlighting environmental issues in the salon setting; and a total of four hours of electives covering the history and development of the cosmetology industry, building a successful career and/or business, the importance of good customer service, understanding retail, and marketing and self-promotion.

This course is designed to give you an overview of the cosmetology industry as well as teaching you some of the tricks of the trade. While introducing the fundamental theory and practices of the cosmetology profession. Course emphasis is placed on professional practices and safety.

This course will take you through an examination and health questionnaire that is "relevant" for a pedicure. It will give you the skills to recognize whether you are free to give your client an unrestricted pedicure, partial pedicure, or referral to a medical professional such as a podiatrist for treatment.

New reporting requirement for criminal convictions
During the 2009 Legislative Session, the Florida Legislature passed House Bill 425, which became law on October 1, 2009. Beginning October 1, 2009, House Bill 425 requires all professional licensees to report to the department within 30 days of being convicted or found guilty of, or having plead nolo contendere or guilty to a crime in any jurisdiction. A licensee who fails to report that information may be subject to disciplinary action, including fines, suspension or license revocation. To report this information, complete the criminal self-reporting document and mail to the department as provided on the form.
